Frequently asked questions
Who can compete?
Anyone age 13+ is welcome to compete with USF. Competitors under 18 years of age will need a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Details about eligibility and available weight classes and divisions can be found in the Athlete guide.
What are USF's weight classes?
USF utilizes the same international weight classes as the majority of strength sports.
Women: 57kg, 64kg, 73kg, 82kg, Unlimited
Men: 80kg, 90kg, 105kg, 120kg, Unlimited
The weights above represent the upper limit of the weight class. The “Unlimited” class does not have an upper weight limit.
Note that availability of weight classes might vary at local competitions, especially in Masters and Teen divisions. Check the individual competition details to confirm available classes in each division.
What is the Elite division and who qualifies for it?
The Elite division is for athletes who have proven themselves in competition at high-level shows such as Nationals and Regionals.
Admission to compete in the Elite division is by invitation only.
You can find a full breakdown of each division and who it’s for - including the Elite division - on the Athlete Info page [link].
What is the Scaled division and who qualifies for it?
The Scaled division is for athletes who are not comfortable competing in Open or Masters. This may be for any number of reasons, and USF is not here to judge that. Our goal is to provide a place for everyone to compete in a way that is challenging, fulfilling, and fair.
Anyone may compete in Scaled, regardless of previous experience. Similarly, no one (including first time competitors) are required to compete in Scaled.
You can find a full detailed breakdown of all the divisions, who they’re for, and our recommendations on the Athlete Info page [link]. And we’re always available via email to answer questions or provide additional clarity.
Can I compete at Nationals in a weight class different from where I qualified?
Yes. You may compete in the class you qualified, or up or down ONE class.
For example, if you qualified in the 90kg class, you may compete in 80kg, 90kg, or 105kg.
You will specify your Nationals division when you sign up for Nationals, and there is no need to alert USF ahead of time.
How much is a membership?
We have separate rates for adults and teens.
All memberships are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
You can view all the most current membership rates and information on our Membership page [link].
Can I buy a membership the day of competition?
We strongly recommend purchasing your membership about 2 days (or more) before the competition. This allows time if you need help or have questions. We are more than happy to help; we are also real humans behind the scenes and may not be available in the moment on a Friday morning during weigh-ins. Give yourself some lead time so we can properly assist if needed.
All memberships are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. To check if your membership is current, just log into your account [link].

We’re stoked you’re interested in joining us!

Can I become a Regional Rep?
We are stoked that you’re interested in learning what it takes to be a Regional Rep! These individuals help us serve a big giant world of strongman competitions, and we couldn’t do it without them.
Regional Reps are proven and trusted promoters who have a history of putting on great shows, being proactive, and giving back to the strongman community.

It’s helpful if you include links to shows you’ve run in the past and a little info about yourself and why you’re interested in the role.
If you’re just starting out, we encourage you to reach out to your current Regional Rep [link] for guidance on promoting competitions with USF and being a bigger part of the USF community. Thanks!
